Waste heat boiler

Efficient heat recovery and steam generation

Our waste heat boilers recover unused waste heat from industrial processes, thereby contributing to energy efficiency and CO₂ reduction. We offer various designs: AHK, AHK (SB), and AHK-ip (SB) – each optimally adapted to different heat sources and performance requirements.

Untapped energy-saving potential

The regenerative use of waste heat describes the conversion of process-related energy losses into reusable forms of energy such as steam or hot water. The sources of waste heat are as varied as the technical solutions for converting it into usable forms of energy. In some applications for waste heat boilers—such as chemical process engineering—the focus is often purely on process cooling.

Depending on the type and nature of the waste heat or useful heat flow on the one hand and the form of heat energy required on the other, we can supply you with the right boiler solution for every requirement. This special product category usually involves a customized boiler solution, which is only supplied in multiple quantities in rare cases.

Depending on the application, smoke tube boilers, water tube boilers, or a combination of both boiler types are used.

One of our areas of expertise in waste heat utilization is the conversion of particle-laden flue gas streams into useful energy. For these applications, we supply flue gas waste heat boilers with surface-structured tubes, which have a greatly reduced tendency to foul and achieve a twofold improvement in heat transfer. The latter effect leads to a significantly more compact boiler size compared to a boiler design with smooth tubes.

Waste Heat Boiler – AHK-ip | Product | Schneider-Kessel Berlin

SCHNEIDER AHK

Flue-heated boiler

Power

  • As a steam generator: steam output up to 30 t/h
  • As a hot water generator: thermal output up to 20 MW

The SCHNEIDER waste heat boiler, Type AHK—a fire-tube boiler with a smooth-tube design—is the simplest model in our range of waste heat boilers.

Areas of Application

The AHK is typically supplied as a downstream heat recovery unit behind internal combustion engines such as gas and diesel engines or gas turbines as a combined heat and power unit.

  • Various industrial sectors
  • combined heat and power
  • combined heat, power, and cooling

Advantages

  • Simple, compact design
  • Increase in overall plant efficiency
  • Reduction in operating costs
  • CO₂ Savings
Waste Heat Boiler – AHK-ip (SB) | Product | Schneider-Kessel Berlin

SCHNEIDER AHK-ip (SB)

Flue-tube recovery boiler
with steam drum

Power

  • for high pressure levels and high performance
  • Steam capacity up to 60 t/h
  • Vapour pressures up to 60 bar (g)

The separation of the evaporator section (smoke tube section) and the steam chamber enables higher steam outputs at higher steam pressures. Design with special ERK-Tubes.

Areas of Application

  • Chemical and process engineering
  • general process engineering
  • Waste management
  • Cement/glass industry

Advantages

in addition to type AHK:

  • Large steam chamber (without additional drum fittings)
  • Reduction in operating costs
  • CO₂ Savings

Improved heat transfer through special tubes (ERK-Tubes)®

Our AHK-ip and AHK-ip (SB) waste heat boilers use ERK Tubes® instead of smooth tubes to increase efficiency, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

The structured indentations of the tubes create tangential and radial mixing movements, which generate turbulence inside and outside the tube.

This significantly improves heat transfer, while particles in the media adhere to the pipe walls at a much lower speed, as a considerable proportion of them are carried away by the turbulent flow.

Dies führt zu längeren Betriebszyklen, weniger Wartung, deutlich reduzierter Reinigung und geringeren Ausfallzeiten.

Advantages

  • Improved heat transfer
  • Reduced particle build-up
  • Longer operating cycles
  • Less maintenance, less cleaning, less downtime
  • Up to 50% smaller in size and weight, whilst maintaining the same capacity

Advantages for Your Application

  • Use of waste heat for additional steam generation
  • Reducing energy costs and CO₂ emissions
  • Flexible adaptation to different industrial processes
  • Robust and durable construction
